Ai-Assisted Survival Prediction in Colorectal Cancer: a Clinical Decision Support Tool

Purpose: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Accurate survival prediction is crucial for advanced-stage patients to optimize treatment strategies and improve clinical outcomes. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence-assisted clinical decision support system (CDSS) for survival prediction in CRC patients using clinical and genomic data from the Cancer Genome Atlas Colon Adenocarcinoma Collection (TCGA-COAD) dataset. Methods: Machine learning algorithms, including C4.5 Decision Tree, Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest, and Naive Bayes, were employed to create survival prediction models. Clinical parameters and genomic data from key pathways, such as glycolysis/gluconeogenesis and mTORC1, were integrated into the models. The models were evaluated based on accuracy and performance. Results: The Random Forest algorithm achieved the highest accuracy (82.3%) when only clinical parameters were used. When clinical data were combined with gene expression data, the model’s accuracy increased further. The resulting models were incorporated into a user-friendly web interface, SurvCOCA, for clinical use. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the potential of AI-based tools to improve prognosis predictions in CRC patients. Further research is needed, with larger datasets and additional machine learning algorithms, to enhance clinical decision-making and optimize treatment strategies.

Sustainability is a complex term, which is often used interchangeably with sustainable development. We observed that sustainability is on the agenda of universities and local governments in Turkey, and frequently included in scientic projects as a keyword. Despite the growing popularity of the concept of sustainability in Turkish academia, there is no detailed examination on how it is understood by academics and how this reects on their scientic outputs. Since the notion of sustainability is instrumentalised by discourses such as development, progress and modernism, on which capitalism nourishes, it also requires thinking about how closely it intertwined with capitalism. The reection of the positivist paradigm on the academic discourses, which is the basis of contemporary techno-scientic-economic discourse, requires critical scrutiny on sustainability as a concept and a practice. For Turkey, this kind of critical inquiry is lacking in the literature. Therefore, we examined the perceptions of the academicians towards the concept of sustainability and how they relate to the practical and theoretical contradictions that this concept has through critical discourse analysis. Thus, we focused on how the sustainable development discourse circulates in academia and reconstructed in local circles. We believe that academics who claim to work on 'sustainability' need to critically engage the questions of what we produce, what we empower, and in what direction we are moving in a critical manner. In this context, we questioned whether the sustainability discourses cause the reproduction of development ideology through works of academics who believe that they work for a better future.

Andrew Ryder, Marius Taba ve Nidhi Trehan’ın editörlüklerini yaptıkları Romani Communities and Transformative Change [Roman Toplulukları ve Dönüşümsel Değişim] (2021), Roman Çalışmaları alanında Avrupa eksenindeki güncel tartışmaları eleştirel bir kavrayışla ele alan önemli bir metindir. Corvinus Üniversitesi’nde Sosyoloji Doçenti olarak çalışan Andrew Ryder Roman Eğitim Fonu’nun yönetim kurulu üyesidir. Ryder, yerel düzeyde Roman aktivizmine gönül vermiş ve 2004 yılında Liberty Human Rights ödülü alan Gypsy and Traveller Law Reform Coalition’da görev almıştır. Bucharest Üniversitesinden Sosyoloji Doktoru ünvanını alan Marius Taba, 15 yılı aşkın süreyle uluslararası ve yerel düzeylerde Romanlara yönelik politika geliştirme ve eğitim reformları başta olmak üzere sayısız projeye katkıda bulunmuştur. Siyaset sosyolojisi alanında çalışan Nidhi Trehan, doktora çalışmasını London School of Economics and Political Science ve doktora sonrası çalışmasını University College London’da tamamlamıştır. 1996’dan beri insan hakları, sosyal politika ve eğitim alanlarında aktif olarak çalışan Trehan, Avrupa’daki Roman topluluklarına yönelik insan hakları ve sivil toplum ve sosyal hareketler konularında yayınlar yapmaktadır.
Asılsız veya İşlek Olmayan Eklerle Yeni Kelimeler Türetilebilir Mi?

Tarihî süreç içinde dilde birtakım fonetik (ses bilgisi) ve morfolojik (şekil bilgisi) değişimler olabilir. Söz konusu değişim doğal olmayan yollardan da gerçekleşebilir. Bir dilde yeni kelimeler yapmak için en çok başvurulan seçeneklerden biri kelime türetmedir. Bu yapılırken iki yol benimsenebilir: Birincisi dilin kelime türetme şartlarına uygun hareket etmek; diğeri yazı dilinde unutulmuş veya işlek olmayan ekler ya da “asılsız” denilen “uydurulan/yaratılan” eklere başvurmak. Yirminci yüzyıl Türkiye Türkçesinde Türk Dil Reformu sırasında bu iki yol da kullanılmış ve pek çok kelime türetilmiştir. Ancak dilde asılsız veya işlek olmayan eklerle yapılan türetmeler tartışmalara yol açmış bu konuda farklı görüşler ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu makalede Türk Dil Reformu sonrası asılsız veya işlek olmayan eklerle yazı dilimizde türetilen kelimeler tasnif edilerek lengüistik bakımdan ve dil bilgisi öğretimi açısından bir değerlendirme sunulacaktır.
Aşk Örüntüleri Üzerine Bir Anlatı Analizi

Aşk, yaşamın her anında gündelik hayatımızı şekillendiren önemli bir etmen/güç olarak karşımıza çıkar. Evrimsel psikoloji alanındaki çalışmaların, aşkın güçlü ve dönüştürücü doğasına hak ettiği önemi göstermesine karşın bu duyguyu anlamaya (verstehen) yönelik antropolojik veya sosyolojik çalışmaların eksikliği kendisini göstermektedir. Literatürdeki bu eksiklikten hareketle aşk olgusu, yetişkin/yaşlı (40-70 yaş), genç yetişkin (18-25 yaş) ve gençler (14-18) olmak üzere üç ayrı nesilden görüşmecilerden toplanılan anlatıların analiz edilmesi ve yorumlanması yoluyla incelenmiştir. Antropoloji literatüründeki eksiklik nedeniyle aşka dair kültür temelli incelemeleri olan psikolog Robert Sternberg'in 'aşk üçgeni' (love triangle) teorisinden hareket edilmiştir. Sternberg'in (1986) tanımıyla aşk; yakınlık, bağlılık ve tutku olarak üç bileşen çerçevesinde operasyonalize edilmiştir. Çalışmada aşkın, biyolojik temelleri inkar edilmeksizin kültürel bir olgu olduğu varsayımından yola çıkılmış- tır. Yapılan gözlemler, her neslin aşk tipolojilerinde bir örüntü bulunduğunu göstermiştir. Nesillere özgü aşk tiplerinin, bireylerin içerisinde bulundukları yaş gruplarının sosyal ve kültürel kökenli ihtiyaçlarına göre değiştiği görülmüştür. Buradan hareketle aşk deneyiminin kültürel değişime bağlı olarak, nesiller arasında farklılaşacağı öngörülmüştür. Aşk'ın doğasındaki bu değişimin, bireylerin faklı yaşam dönemleri içerisinde meydana gelen ihtiyaçlarına paralel bir biçimde deği- şim gösterdiği için aşk deneyiminin, bireylerin ihtiyaç- ları temelinde değiştiği şeklinde yorumlanmıştır.

Combined Measurement of the Higgs Boson Mass in Pp Collisions at Root S=7 and 8 Tev With the Atlas and Cms Experiments

A measurement of the Higgs boson mass is presented based on the combined data samples of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in the H --> gamma gamma and H --> ZZ --> 4l decay channels. The results are obtained from a simultaneous fit to the reconstructed invariant mass peaks in the two channels and for the two experiments. The measured masses from the individual channels and the two experiments are found to be consistent among themselves. The combined measured mass of the Higgs boson is m(H) = 125.09 +/- 0.21 (stat) +/- 0.11 (syst) GeV.

Constraints on the Spin-Parity and Anomalous Hvv Couplings of the Higgs Boson in Proton Collisions at 7 and 8 Tev

The study of the spin-parity and tensor structure of the interactions of the recently discovered Higgs boson is performed using the H -> ZZ, Z gamma*, gamma*gamma* -> 4l, H -> WW -> l(nu)l(nu), and H -> gamma gamma decay modes. The full data set recorded by the CMS experiment during the LHC run 1 is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 5.1 fb(-1) at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and up to 19.7 fb(-1) at 8 TeV. A wide range of spin-two models is excluded at a 99% confidence level or higher, or at a 99.87% confidence level for the minimal gravitylike couplings, regardless of whether assumptions are made on the production mechanism. Any mixed-parity spin-one state is excluded in the ZZ and WW modes at a greater than 99.999% confidence level. Under the hypothesis that the resonance is a spin-zero boson, the tensor structure of the interactions of the Higgs boson with two vector bosons ZZ, Z gamma, gamma gamma, and WW is investigated and limits on eleven anomalous contributions are set. Tighter constraints on anomalous HVV interactions are obtained by combining the HZZ and HWW measurements. All observations are consistent with the expectations for the standard model Higgs boson with the quantum numbers J(PC) = 0(++).

Design, Performance, and Calibration of the Cms Hadron-Outer Calorimeter

The Outer Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL HO) of the CMS detector is designed to measure the energy that is not contained by the barrel (HCAL HB) and electromagnetic (ECAL EB) calorimeters. Due to space limitation the barrel calorimeters do not contain completely the hadronic shower and an outer calorimeter (HO) was designed, constructed and inserted in the muon system of CMS to measure the energy leakage. Testing and calibration of the HO was carried out in a 300 GeV/c test beam that improved the linearity and resolution. HO will provide a net improvement in missing E T measurements at LHC energies. Information from HO will also be used for the muon trigger in CMS. © 2008 Springer-Verlag / Società Italiana di Fisica.

Destined for Coal?: a "hierarchy of Harms" and the Prospects of Renewable Energy in Kosovo

Relying on interviews conducted in the summer of 2019 with parliamentary advisors, civil society activists, public officials and the EU, OSCE, and UNDP missions in Kosovo, this study provides an overview of the debates about the building of the new coal power plant by a US-led (UK-based) Company ContourGlobal. It discusses how different actors in Kosovo state and society approach the renewable energy question. An important obstacle against Kosovo's transition to renewable energy derives from the absence of consensus about the main threats and goals facing Kosovo. Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at S=7 TeV

Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MADGRAPH + PYTHIA and SHERPA, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BLACKHAT + SHERPA. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values. © 2014 The Authors

Bir toplumdaki siyasî, sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik alanlardaki değişimler bir diğerine yansır. Toplumda meydana gelen bu türlü değişimler dilde de kendini gösterir ve dili değişken kılar. Bu sebeple dilden bağımsız toplumu, toplumdan bağımsız dili düşünmek imkânsızdır. Türkçenin tarihî seyrine bakıldığında ise Cumhuriyet dönemine, dil tartışmalarının damgasını vurduğu görülür. Türkiye?de dil tartışmaları Osmanlı İmparatorluğu?nun modernleşme süreciyle başlar, ardından Cumhuriyet?in uluslaşma süreciyle devam eder. Bunun neticesinde bu dönem Türkçe tartışmaları lengüistik olmaktan ziyade modernleşme sürecindeki politik duruşlara göre belirlenmiştir. Bu makalede dile “toplumsal bir olgu” olarak yaklaşılarak söz konusu dönemde dil, toplum ve kültür arasındaki sıkı ancak karmaşık ilişkinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmaktadır.
An Empirical Study of Sequential Offer Bargaining During the Festival of Sacrifice

We report results from a unique data set of real -life bargaining transactions collected from the market for livestock (sheep) before the Festival of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha) in Izmir, Turkey. This market is characterized by frequent and aggressive bargaining, which occurs in the form of sequential price offers. We record bargaining transactions as they occur, and collect detailed information on the bargaining environment, as well as on the characteristics of buyers and sellers. We also elicit each seller's outside option by means of an incentive compatible mechanism and obtain a reported maximum willingness to pay from buyers. We particularly focus on aspects of the bargaining process, such as non -price communication. In different types of empirical analysis, results robustly indicate that the presence and content of communication matters, for the likelihood of a sale as well as concessions made. Specifically, buyer -side communication is associated with larger concessions from the seller and a higher probability of sale. The presence of a mediator during the negotiation is associated with a higher probability of sale as well, while it has no effect on prices. We also provide results on the relative importance of groups of variables for predicting bargaining outcomes, which can provide directions for further research in bargaining.

Biz bu etkinlikte engelliliğin her bir bireyle değişen, yeniden tanımlanan ve bizi tanımlayan bir süreç olduğunu anlatmak, birlikte anlamak istedik. İlk konuşmada Şebnem’le tanışacaksınız. Eğitimin yanında sanatın, edebiyatın sürükleyici gücüyle Şebnem’in bireyselleşme serüvenine şahit olacaksınız. Bireyselleşmenin bazen en sevdiklerinizin kaygısıyla bile mücadele demek olduğunu anlayacaksınız.

Eu as a Good (enough) Governance Exporter in Kosovo? Local Views on the Aborted Kosovo E Re Power Plant Project

This study focuses on the EU's perceived role in Kosovo as a good governance exporter through political conditionality. Local debates on the EU's stance towards the recently aborted coal power plant project (Kosovo e Re) reflect a disappointment with the EU's failure to prioritise good governance reforms that have not been implemented sufficiently in Kosovo. The study mainly benefits from interviews conducted in Pristina in 2019 in order to explore various EU, domestic and international factors hindering the EU's capability as a good governance exporter. Following the EU's limited transformative agency in contested states, it concludes that the EU is perceived by local actors in Kosovo as a "good enough governance" exporter that favours stability in the region and transatlantic partnership at the expense of good governance reforms. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

Event Shapes and Azimuthal Correlations in Z Plus Jets Events in Pp Collisions at Root S=7 Tev

Measurements of event shapes and azimuthal correlations are presented for events where a Z boson is produced in association with jets in proton-proton collisions. The data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at root s = 7 TeV correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). The analysis provides a test of predictions from perturbative QCD for a process that represents a substantial background to many physics channels. Results are presented as a function of jet multiplicity, for inclusive Z boson production and for Z bosons with transverse momenta greater than 150 GeV, and compared to predictions from Monte Carlo event generators that include leading-order multiparton matrix-element (with up to four hard partons in the final state) and next-to-leading-order simulations of Z + 1-jet events.
