Uluslararası Mekanizmalar ve Makina Teorisi Federasyonu (IFToMM) [2] Dünya Kongresi sırasında 22 Haziran 2011’de IFToMM üye kuruluşu olmuştur. IFToMM, 29 Eylül 1969’da Polonya’nın Zakopane şehrinde 2. Mekanizma ve Makine Teorisi Dünya Kongresi sırasında Prof. Ivan I. Artobolevski (SSCB) ve Prof. Erskine F.R. Crossley (ABD) öncülüğünde soğuk savaştan etkilenmeden Mekanizma ve Makina Bilimi (MMB) alanında uluslararası işbirliğini geliştirmek üzere kurulmuştur [3]. IFToMM’un ana hedefleri MMB alanlanında kuramsal, deneysel ve uygulamalı çalışmalarda araştırma ve geliştirmeyi desteklemek, MMB ya da ilgili alanlarda bilimsel ve mühendislik çalışmaları yürüten farklı ülkelerdeki kişi ve kuruluşların temaslarını yaygınlaştırmak ve gelişmekte olan ülkelere uzmanların seyahat desteği, özel kurslar düzenlenmesi ve diğer girişimlerle MMB çalışmalarını desteklemektir [4]. IFToMM camiası halen özellikle gelişmemiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerde MMB çalışmalarını destekleme misyonunu sürdürmektedir.Conference Object 13. There has been a great interest in this year’s symposium, as in previous years. UYMS is a platform which helps bring together the software industry and the academicians working in this area. It is being organized since 2003 and it plays an important role in shaping the future of the software industry in Turkey. We would like to thank all the participants whose contributions led to the successful realization of this symposium. We would also like to express our belief that these contributions will lead to a better and more productive efforts in the field of software engineering. Along with the main area of UYMS, in the thematic areas of Software Test Engineering, Software Engineering for Health, Software Modeling, and Graduate Theses, a total of 77 papers were accepted this year. At least three referees reviewed each paper and the papers were evaluated based on these reviews. These conferences provided a common ground researchers and engineers to report and discuss the latest scientific advancements and practitioner’s solutions in hydroscience and engineering. ICHE 2022 conference aims to bring together researchers and practicing engineers to share the latest scientific and technological advancements in hydroscience and engineering, and will provide networking opportunities for future activities. Izmir Institute of TechnologyCurrently network security of institutions highly depend on firewalls, which are used to separate untrusted network from trusted one by enforcing security policies. Security policies used in firewalls are ordered set of rules where each rule is represented as a predicate and an action. This paper proposes modeling of firewall rules via directed acyclic graphs (DAG), from which test cases can be automatically generated for firewall testing. The approach proposed follows test case generation algorithm developed for event sequence graphs. Under a local area network setup with the aid of a specifically developed software for this purpose, generated test cases are converted to network test packets, test packets are sent to the firewall under test (FUT), and sent packets are compared with passed packets to determine test result.Conference Object 2-D Thresholding of the Connectivity Map Following the Multiple Sequence Alignments of Diverse Datasets(ACTA Press, 2013) Doğan, Tunca; Karaçalı, Bilge; 03.05. Izmir Institute of TechnologyMultiple sequence alignment (MSA) is a widely used method to uncover the relationships between the biomolecular sequences. One essential prerequisite to apply this procedure is to have a considerable amount of similarity between the test sequences. It's usually not possible to obtain reliable results from the multiple alignments of large and diverse datasets. Here we propose a method to obtain sequence clusters of significant intragroup similarities and make sense out of the multiple alignments containing remote sequences. This is achieved by thresholding the pairwise connectivity map over 2 parameters. The first one is the inferred pairwise evolutionary distances and the second parameter is the number of gapless positions on the pairwise comparisons of the alignment. Threshold curves are generated regarding the statistical parameter values obtained from a shuffled dataset and probability distribution techniques are employed to select an optimum threshold curve that eliminate as much of the unreliable connectivities while keeping the reliable ones. We applied the method on a large and diverse dataset composed of nearly 18000 human proteins and measured the biological relevance of the recovered connectivities. Our precision measure (0.981) was nearly 20% higher than the one for the connectivities left after a classical thresholding procedure displaying a significant improvement. Finally we employed the method for the functional clustering of protein sequences in a gold standard dataset. Department of Bioengineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyPneumatic valves have a crucial place in the fluidic control in microfluidic systems. Pneumatic valves containing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane structures are used in microfluidic systems such as cell separation, and cell manipulation due to their flexible structure, and ease of production. This study demonstrates the rapid and straightforward fabrication of pneumatic valve structures using PDMS membranes, achieved through the utilization of 3D-printed molds. As a result of our experiments, we observed valve closure in a fluidic channel with a height of 150 μm. This closure was achieved by utilizing 400 μm × 800 μm PDMS membrane with a thickness of 66 μm positioned between the fluidic and control channels, while applying 1.5 bar of pressure to the control channel. When the pressure is removed, the opening time of the valve is only 0.02 s, and this response time allows rapid valving function. It is found that mesopores could be obtained in beta zeolites with the change of the activation procedure. Although the human eye has a wide dynamic range for brightness adaptation, direct exposure to relatively bright light sources wipes out the total visual perception. The most remarkable example of this situation is driving a car at night, while the other cars are coming from the opposite lane with headlights on. In this work, we have proposed and developed a set of LCD equipped active glasses to solve this light adaptation problem. First, the location of the light sources are determined using an on board camera which is assembled in front of the glasses. Izmir Institute of TechnologyWe introduced an active heat transfer control between graphene and water using interdigitated electrodes (IDEs). Oppositely charged co-planer electrodes embedded on a graphene surface created a non-uniform electric field. Resulted interface localized liquid dielectrophoresis (LDEP) perpendicular to surface enhanced the water/graphene coupling and decreased interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) substantially. We correlated the theoretical calculations of average electric field strength near surface with Kapitza values measured at corresponding electrode configurations. We obtained a unified linear variation of Kapitza as a function of average electric strength independent of electrode size and charge. By increasing the electric field strength, we measured up to 96% decrease of Kapitza near electrodes. Since the IDEs generated electric field was only interface localized, it required lower electrode charges than any parallel-plate capacitor systems. We showed that ITR remains effective in heat transfer behavior for systems as big as 100nm such that interface localized electric field can at least increase the heat removal 50% by eliminating the ITR from both graphene/water interfaces of a channel system. By converting hydrophobic few-layer graphene to super-hydrophilic condition with ultra-low Kapitza, current results are important for graphene-based materials considered for the solution of the thermal management problem of current and next generation micro/nano-electronics.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Active Mixing Strategy With Electromechanical Platform for Lab-On Applications(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2019) Karakuzu, Betül; Özçivici, Engin; Tekin, Hüseyin Cumhur; Tarım, E. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe main purpose of this study is to present a new active mixing strategy that can be used for lab-on-A-chip applications to shorten analysis time. An electromechanical platform composed of stepper and DC motors is designed and manufactured. This platform allows rapid mixing in microwells of a polydimethylsiloxane chip for analysis. Mixing in microwells is performed with a stirring bar spun automatically using the electromechanical platform. Mixing experiments performed at different spinning speeds and different time intervals on the platform. It was observed that mixing was achieved only in 300 ms inside 100 ?L microwell using 4300 revolutions per minute (rpm) spinning speeds. Izmir Institute of TechnologyFriedel-Crafts acylation of 2-Methoxynaphthalene was carried out over various ion-exchanged β zeolites (Mn+β, where Mn+: In3+, Zn2+, Al3+, Fe3+, La3+) with various anhydride (acetic, propionic and benzoic anhydrides), or acyl chloride (acetyl, propionyl and benzoyl chlorides) acylating reagents. The results suggested that selectivity towards the 6-substituted products was higher with the larger size anhydrides, propionic and benzoic anhydrides. The metal cation type within the zeolite significantly influenced the extent of conversion and product distribution. That La3+ exchanged zeolite displayed higher selectivity for the 6-position acylated product with anhydrides ascribed mainly to narrowing of channels by the presence of La(OH)2+ ions that leave no room for the formation of more bulky isomeric forms and to enhanced Bronsted acidity of the zeolite. We study the effect of subjectivity-based features on sentiment classification on two lexicons and also propose new subjectivity-based features for sentiment classification. The subjectivity-based features we experiment with are based on the average word polarity and the new features that we propose are based on the occurrence of subjective words in review texts. Izmir Institute of TechnologyBuilding Information Modelling (BIM) is highly adopted by Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Facilities Management (AEC/FM) companies around the world due to its benefits such as improving collaboration of stakeholders in projects. Effective implementation of BIM in organizations requires assessment of existing BIM performances of AEC/FM processes. We developed a reference model for BIM capability assessments based on the meta-model of the ISO/IEC 330xx (the most recent version of SPICE) family of standards. BIM-CAREM can be used for identifying the BIM capabilities of the AEC/FM processes. The model was updated iteratively based on the expert reviews and an exploratory case study, and was evaluated via four explanatory case studies. The assessment results showed that the BIM-CAREM is capable of identifying BIM capabilities of specific processes. Physical realization of concurrently actuated manipulators and their advantageous of use have been understood before, but adaptive failure compensation is still an open issue. In this research, failure formulation, controller structure and adaptive update rules for handling uncertainties from both the system dynamics and the failures are studied. The system stability is shown by a modified Lyapunov. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThis paper presents adaptive actuator failure compensation for a cooperating multiple manipulator system with uncertain actuator failures in the task space. Advantages of designing control schemes in task spaces are emphasized, applications of task space control in robotics are discussed and a short review on control algorithms for cooperating multiple manipulator systems is given. Dynamic equations of motion of the multiple manipulator system in the task space are derived, and the adaptive actuator failure compensation problem is formulated. A compensation controller structure is proposed, for which adaptive parameter update laws are developed. The adaptive control scheme is able to compensate for the uncertainties arising from both the system parameters and the actuator failures. Izmir Institute of TechnologyIn this paper, we improve the performance of cell-edge users by applying adaptive bit partitioning for intercell interference cancelation in cooperative downlink multicell systems. The strategy for partitioning quantization bits between serving and interfering base stations affects the performance of the cooperative networks which is quite sensitive to the quality of the channel state information. The existing transmission strategies are based on the maximization of average cell rate which results in a reduced rate for the users in the cell-edge regions. We propose an adaptive bit partitioning strategy to improve the rate of cell-edge users at the same average feedback link rate.
