Measurement of Differential Cross Sections for Z Boson Pair Production in Association With Jets at S=8 and 13 Tev

This Letter reports measurements of differential cross sections for the production of two Z bosons in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at s=8 and 13 TeV. The analysis is based on data samples collected at the LHC with the CMS detector, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 19.7 and 35.9fb−1 at 8 and 13 TeV, respectively. The measurements are performed in the leptonic decay modes ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′−, where ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ. The differential cross sections as a function of the jet multiplicity, the transverse momentum pT, and pseudorapidity of the pT -leading and subleading jets are presented. In addition, the differential cross sections as a function of variables sensitive to the vector boson scattering, such as the invariant mass of the two pT -leading jets and their pseudorapidity separation, are reported. The results are compared to theoretical predictions and found in good agreement within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. © 2018 The Author(s)

Bim Execution Process of Construction Companies for Building Projects

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been an emerging concept in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry with a vast amount of promising benefits to construction projects. Implementation of BIM, however, requires comprehensive research and strategic planning. Industry-wide and organizational implementation guidelines and standards have been published around the world either to encourage organizations to adopt BIM or to present the minimum requirements to be followed where BIM implementation is a statutory obligation. In contrast, governments or organizations in several countries such as Turkey have not mandated BIM implementation and provide no guidance. Organizations in these countries which plan to adopt BIM processes are forced to develop their own implementation plans. The purpose of this study is to provide guidance in BIM implementation for construction companies in countries where BIM implementation has not been mandated particularly during the construction phase of the building projects. 23 BIM standards and guidelines covering the BIM execution process have been reviewed. Topics that need to be addressed by BIM implementation plans have been identified and categorized under four headings. A case study of BIM implementation at a large construction company that focuses on conducting quantity takeoff and cost estimation is presented, and unique challenges of BIM implementation in Turkish AEC industry are discussed. © 2017 ISEC Press.

An Entropy-Based Analysis of Lane Changing Behavior: An Interactive Approach

Objectives: As a novelty, this article proposes the nonadditive entropy framework for the description of driver behaviors during lane changing. The authors also state that this entropy framework governs the lane changing behavior in traffic flow in accordance with the long-range vehicular interactions and traffic safety. Methods: The nonadditive entropy framework is the new generalized theory of thermostatistical mechanics. Vehicular interactions during lane changing are considered within this framework. The interactive approach for the lane changing behavior of the drivers is presented in the traffic flow scenarios presented in the article. According to the traffic flow scenarios, 4 categories of traffic flow and driver behaviors are obtained. Through the scenarios, comparative analyses of nonadditive and additive entropy domains are also provided. Results: Two quadrants of the categories belong to the nonadditive entropy; the rest are involved in the additive entropy domain. Driving behaviors are extracted and the scenarios depict that nonadditivity matches safe driving well, whereas additivity corresponds to unsafe driving. Furthermore, the cooperative traffic system is considered in nonadditivity where the long-range interactions are present. However, the uncooperative traffic system falls into the additivity domain. The analyses also state that there would be possible traffic flow transitions among the quadrants. This article shows that lane changing behavior could be generalized as nonadditive, with additivity as a special case, based on the given traffic conditions. Conclusions: The nearest and close neighbor models are well within the conventional additive entropy framework. In this article, both the long-range vehicular interactions and safe driving behavior in traffic are handled in the nonadditive entropy domain. It is also inferred that the Tsallis entropy region would correspond to mandatory lane changing behavior, whereas additive and either the extensive or nonextensive entropy region would match discretionary lane changing behavior. This article states that driver behaviors would be in the nonadditive entropy domain to provide a safe traffic stream and hence with vehicle accident prevention in mind.

Optimization of Biomass, Pellet Size and Polygalacturonase Production by Aspergillus Sojae Atcc 20235 Using Response Surface Methodology

A two-step optimization procedure using central composite design with four factors (concentrations of maltrin and corn steep liquor (CSL), agitation speed and inoculation ratio) was used in order to investigate the effect of these parameters on the polygalacturonase (PG) enzyme activity, mycelia growth (biomass) and morphology (pellet size) of Aspergillus sojae ATCC 20235. According to the results of response surface methodology (RSM), initial concentrations of maltrin and CSL and agitation speed were significant (p < 0.05) on both PG enzyme production and biomass formation. As a result of this optimization, maximum PG activity (13.5 U/ml) was achievable at high maltrin (120 g/l), at low CSL (0 g/l), high agitation speed (350 rpm) and high inoculation ratio (2 × 107 total spore). Similarly, maximum biomass (26 g/l) could be obtained under the same conditions with only the difference for higher level of CSL requirement. The diameter of pellets in all optimization experiments ranged between 0.05 and 0.76 cm. The second optimization step improved the PG activity by 74% and the biomass by 40%.

Solitons of the Resonant Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation With Nontrivial Boundary Conditions: Hirota Bilinear Method

We use the Hirota bilinear approach to consider physically relevant soliton solutions of the resonant nonlinear Schrödinger equation with nontrivial boundary conditions, recently proposed for describing uniaxial waves in a cold collisionless plasma. By the Madelung representation, the model transforms into the reaction-diffusion analogue of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, for which we study the bilinear representation, the soliton solutions, and their mutual interactions.
